Parent Coaching & Parenting Support

Parent Support in Raleigh, North Raleigh, and Durham, NC
Parenting isn't easy, but you don't have to do it alone. No matter how much we prepare, how many books we read, or classes we take, there will be days when parenting feels overwhelming. Birch Therapy supports parents through four coaching services: Parent Coaching, Parenting Classes through Circle of Security-Parenting™ (COSP), a dedicated Parent Coordinator, and Emotion Coaching.
Understanding Parent Coaching
Parent Coaching at Birch Therapy is one-on-one and personalized to help you develop the tools and strategies to effectively support your child, whether they're an infant, adolescent, or young adult. Birch Therapy's team specializes in parenting and family dynamics. Parent Coaching also includes help locating and securing specialized care, such as finding therapists or psychiatrists who align with your child's specific needs.
Parenting Classes at Birch Therapy use Circle of Security-Parenting™ (COSP), a 9-week, evidence-informed parenting program designed to strengthen the parent-child bond. Birch Therapy's therapists have spent decades studying parenting tools, curricula, and best practices, which led the practice to embrace COSP.

This simple yet powerful curriculum helps parents understand their children's needs and how to meet them effectively. COSP groups are offered in person and virtually throughout the year, and 5 Birch Therapy staff are trained as facilitators in this model.
Birch Therapy's Parent Coordinator, Laura Brimberry, MSW, serves as the practice's Circle of Security-Parenting™ Coordinator and brings over 30 years of experience helping parents and families. Emotion Coaching is part of Birch Therapy's parent support. Laura is trained in Emotion Coaching for Parents through The Gottman Institute, and Erin Garrett includes Emotion Coaching among her specialties.

Our Approach to Care
At Birch Therapy, parenting support is tailored to the unique challenges each family faces. Parent Coaching is offered one-on-one and alongside parent consultations, guided by a team that specializes in parenting and family dynamics.
Parenting Classes/COSP cover attachment theory, child development, and best parenting practices, from infancy to the teenage years. The group-based format encourages learning and sharing struggles with other parents who genuinely "get it." It also supports the concept of "good enough parenting," acknowledging that mistakes are part of the journey.
As Parent Coordinator, Laura Brimberry has facilitated Circle of Security-Parenting™ groups with SAFEChild since 2019, organizing and teaching over 30 parenting groups in the Raleigh area. She continues her work with the Circle of Security program both in parenting classes and within local preschools. For Emotion Coaching, Laura is trained in Emotion Coaching for Parents through The Gottman Institute. Erin Garrett brings Emotion Coaching and parent consultations to her family-centered approach, which engages, involves, strengthens, and supports families as a whole.
