Using Your Insurance
Birch Therapy is an out-of-network practice. If you wish to use health insurance, you may be able to use your out-of-network insurance benefits to offset the cost of services.
Reimbursement Options
Superbills
Birch Therapy will provide a Superbill in exchange for your payment, which you can submit to your insurance company to request reimbursement for some or all of the session fee.
Deductibles
Some insurance companies allow clients to apply psychotherapy fees to their yearly out-of-pocket deductible.
HSA & FSA
Birch Therapy can guide you through using HSA/FSA funds when applicable.
Employer Accounts
Some employers allow the use of flexible spending accounts, medical savings accounts, or health reimbursement arrangements. Call your employer's human resources or benefits department for more information.
How to Check Your
Out-of-Network Benefits
Step
Call your insurance company. The member services number should be on the back of your card.
Step
Ask if you have "out of network" benefits for mental health care. If they ask "outpatient or inpatient?", therapy at Birch Therapy is outpatient care.
Step
Find out if you have a deductible that must be met before coverage kicks in. If so, ask how much you need to pay before your insurance begins to reimburse you.
Step
Ask how much your plan will reimburse you: "What is the maximum allowed amount for mental health service code 90834 with a therapist, and what percentage of the maximum allowed amount will my plan pay?" That percentage is the amount you would receive as reimbursement.
Why Birch Therapy is Private Pay

Confidentiality and treatment decisions remain solely between you and your therapist.
Benefits of Self Pay

Insurance plans require a diagnosis and additional clinical details to reimburse services and reserve the right to audit your records. Self-pay avoids this.

Some insurance plans limit the number or frequency of sessions covered. With self-pay, these decisions stay between you and your clinician.

With insurance, your therapy experience, including diagnosis, is made available to future insurance companies.
How Private Pay Supports Your Therapist
Therapists in private pay practices are more likely to:
Maintain healthy boundaries and manageable caseloads
Have time for continuing education and supervision
Be fully present and emotionally available in session
Build long-term, stable practices that won't disappear when reimbursement rates change
Scheduling and Cancellation Policy
Session Availability
Birch Therapy meets with clients Monday through Friday and offers after-school and after-work hours to best meet the needs of clients.
Cancellations
Birch Therapy requires 48 hours notice for cancellations to avoid the late cancellation/no-show fee. This provides as much notice as possible for waitlist clients.

Your Right to a Good Faith Estimate
Under the No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a "Good Faith Estimate" explaining how much your medical care will cost. Health care providers need to offer clients who don't have insurance, or who are not using insurance, an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services.
