Curated Space
It doesn’t take long for something to change in the landscape of Birch Therapy waiting spaces…. a pillow, a piece of art, a chair. The purpose of the space is meant to welcome in the weary, the angry, the sad, whatever feelings arrive into the space with you, and be a container for anything you are hoping to leave behind. Displaying art from local artists in our therapy practice is an intentional choice that deeply enriches our therapeutic environment. For many clients, entering a therapy space can evoke vulnerability or anxiety; seeing unique, authentic expressions on the walls immediately signals that this is a safe haven where non-normative ways of experiencing the world are not just accepted, but celebrated. This art serves as a powerful, non-verbal bridge of connection and representation, allowing neurodivergent individuals to see their internal landscapes mirrored and validated in the physical environment. Furthermore, by sourcing these pieces locally (U.S. Southeast), we actively invest in our community's creative ecosystem, challenging systemic stigmas and honoring the profound insights that neurodivergent perspectives bring to mental wellness and human connection.
Carrie Pittman Hall, Le Weekend, 2026. “Art, creativity and painting are all beautiful expressions , that oftentimes words cannot reach. Creativity has been a profound healing balm in my own health and mental wellness journey.”
Nan Jones, Missing in Monoco, 2019. "As an abstract artist, painting is how I make sense of the world around me. Living with anxiety has made me hyper-aware of movement, energy, and subtle emotional shifts, and those qualities naturally show up in my work through layered compositions, unexpected color combinations, and expressive mark-making. Many of my paintings live in the space between chaos and calm. While I don't paint about anxiety, I do believe it has made me more observant, more sensitive, and more connected to the nuances of everyday life. The studio is where I transform those feelings into something positive - layers of color, texture, and movement that tell a story of resilience, hope, and possibility. My hope is that when someone spends time with my work, they feel a little lighter, a little more connected, and leave with a sense of joy and optimism."
Hayley Price, The Connector, 2026, is part of The Muses series, a collection of modern female archetypes that explores the many roles women embody today. Rather than depicting specific individuals, each figure serves as a reflection of a familiar energy or identity. The Connector came from thinking about the women I know who hold rooms together. Not loudly, not by taking up the most space, but through an almost instinctive attunement to everyone around them. She reads the energy of a room before she's fully in it. She notices who's been quiet too long. That kind of deep social perception is often a gift that looks, from the outside, effortless, but rarely is. The women who are best at holding space for others are often the ones who most need someone to hold space for them. They give it so naturally that nobody thinks to ask. That's who she is to me. She's not just the one who keeps the room together. She needs the room too. The Muses as a collection was always about recognition. Giving women a figure on a wall and letting them say that's me or I know her without needing a caption to explain it.
