Unlock Your Potential: Executive Function Coaching

Help Your Child Build the Skills School Doesn't Teach

Smart kids get stuck all the time — not because they don't understand the material, but because no one ever taught them how to plan, start, organize, or follow through. Executive function coaching fills that gap

Your child is bright. Their teachers say they're capable. But somehow:

  • Homework that should take 20 minutes takes two hours

  • Backpacks and binders are a black hole of lost papers

  • Big projects get started the night before they're due

  • Mornings are a battle over the same five things, every single day

  • "I forgot" is the answer to almost everything

This isn't a motivation problem. It's a skills gap — and it's incredibly common, especially for kids with ADHD, learning differences, or anxiety, but it shows up in neurotypical kids too. Executive function skills (planning, organization, time management, working memory, emotional regulation, task initiation) develop at different rates for different kids. Coaching meets your child where they are and builds the skills directly.

What Is Executive Function Coaching?

Executive function coaching is one-on-one support that teaches kids and teens the practical, behind-the-scenes skills needed to manage school and life:

  • Planning & prioritizing — breaking big tasks into steps that don't feel overwhelming

  • Time management — learning what an hour actually feels like, and how to estimate it

  • Organization — systems for backpacks, binders, digital files, and bedrooms that actually stick

  • Task initiation — getting started without a fight, every time

  • Working memory — tools and habits that reduce reliance on "just remembering"

  • Self-monitoring — noticing when a plan isn't working and adjusting it

  • Emotional regulation — managing the frustration that shows up when things feel hard

A coach doesn't do the work for your child or nag them through it. A coach teaches the underlying skill, so your child can eventually run the system themselves.

How It's Different from Tutoring

Tutoring teaches a subject. Coaching teaches the operating system underneath every subject.

A tutor might help your child understand fractions. A coach helps your child figure out when to start their fraction homework, how long to budget for it, where to put the worksheet when it's done, and what to do when they get frustrated halfway through.

Who This Is For

Executive function coaching helps kids and teens who:

  • Have ADHD, autism, a learning disability, or anxiety

  • Are bright but consistently underperform relative to their ability

  • Struggle with transitions — home to school, elementary to middle school, middle to high school

  • Melt down over homework, or avoid it altogether

  • Have great intentions and inconsistent follow-through

  • Are heading to a level of independence (middle school, high school, college) their current habits won't support

Ages 10 and up, because this is exactly the window when school starts asking for independent planning and self-management — and when kids are developmentally ready to start owning these skills for themselves.

The Benefits

For Your Child

  • Less homework conflict at home

  • More confidence — competence quiets a lot of anxiety

  • Skills that transfer: sports, jobs, friendships, adult life

  • A sense of ownership over their own success, instead of relying on parents to manage everything

For Your Family

  • Fewer nightly battles over assignments and deadlines

  • A parent who gets to go back to being a parent, not a project manager

  • A concrete plan instead of a vague sense that "something needs to change"

For the Long Run

Executive function skills are the strongest predictor of long-term academic and life success — often a better predictor than IQ. Kids who build these skills now carry them into high school, college, and their careers. This isn't a quick fix for this semester's grades. It's an investment in how your child will operate for the rest of their life.

How Coaching Works

  1. Initial Assessment — We get to know your child's specific challenges, strengths, and goals — and talk with you about what you're seeing at home.

  2. Personalized Plan — Every kid's executive function profile is different. We build a plan around your child's actual life: their school, their schedule, their brain.

  3. Weekly Sessions — One-on-one coaching, in person or virtual, focused on real tasks and real skills — not worksheets about skills.

  4. Real-World Practice — Skills get tested against actual homework, actual mornings, actual projects — not hypotheticals.

  5. Ongoing Check-Ins with Parents — You're kept in the loop without being put in the middle.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does coaching take to show results? Most families notice small shifts within the first few weeks — less friction, a bit more independence. Durable habit change usually takes a full semester or more. We track progress together so you can see it happening.

Is this only for kids with ADHD? No. ADHD is common among the kids we work with, but plenty of neurotypical kids also need explicit instruction in these skills. If your child is smart but disorganized, overwhelmed, or stuck, coaching can help regardless of diagnosis.

Do you work with teens too? Yes — coaching works well for ages 10 through the college years. The skills and approach adjust as kids get older and take on more independence.

Will my child actually want to do this? Coaches build real rapport, and sessions focus on your child's own goals, not compliance. Most kids come to see their coach as someone in their corner, not one more adult telling them what to do.
