SAVANNAH STOCKER, INTERN

Savannah is a [practicum/intern] student at Birch Therapy working under the direct supervision of Erin Garrett- LCSW. She received her undergraduate degree in Psychology from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is currently pursuing her Master's in Counselor Education with a specialization in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from East Carolina University. Savannah has worked with children and teens across a range of educational settings, from elementary classrooms to community college, providing academic support, mentorship, and guidance to help young people navigate challenges and build on their strengths. More recently, she served as an Intake Coordinator at a therapy practice, where she gained firsthand experience as the initial point of contact for individuals and couples seeking mental health services. She is passionate about creating a safe, supportive therapeutic environment and deeply values the therapeutic alliance as the foundation of meaningful change.

MY WHY

Working with kids and teens has been a part of every chapter of my life. Whether I was volunteering as a reading partner, supporting English language learners, or mentoring students, I kept being drawn back to those moments of connection with young people. My own experience in therapy also shed light on how transformative the process can be in how you understand yourself and move through the world.

MY STYLE

Savannah works with children ages 3+ and is committed to meeting each client exactly where they are. She takes a person-centered, strengths-based approach, emphasizing the importance of the therapeutic relationship. Her goal is to create a warm, nonjudgmental space where clients feel safe to express themselves. Savannah is developing her skills in creative interventions including play therapy, art-based techniques, and sand tray therapy, and she loves finding ways to help young clients express what words sometimes can't. She is also interested in exploring cognitive-behavioral approaches including CBT and ACT and mindfulness-based strategies. Savannah believes in tailoring her approach to fit the unique needs and goals of each child, teen, and family she works with.
