SERVING CHILDREN AGES 8+ FOR INDIVIDUAL THERAPY, FAMILY THERAPY, TEENS & ADULTS, EMDR
ALEXIS HALL, LCMHCA
Alexis is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counseling Associate (LCMHCA), who works with clients across the lifespan, from children and adolescents to adults. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina Wilmington in Psychology and French, with a focus on the socio-political aspects of francophone studies and a psychology research focus on drugs and behavior. More recently, she received her master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from Western Carolina University and worked in Western North Carolina before moving to the area. While living in Western Carolina, Alexis provided school based mental health services to elementary children, counseling for families of teens in a residential setting, and pro bono counseling for residents impacted by Hurricane Helene.
MY WHY
My ‘why’ started with lived experience and evolved into meaning-making. I am thankful that I have had the chance to live an extraordinary life, with both incredible gifts and experiences and with significant challenges. As a teen and later as an adult, I spent a considerable amount of time feeling stuck and unhappy and continuously seeking approval and validation from external sources. I became a people pleaser in my previous career that continued that pattern; I didn’t know who I was or what could make me happy. By gaining a greater understanding of my own complex trauma and neurodivergence through therapy, determination, and most importantly self-compassion, I found the freedom and courage to create a life that I am proud of, that brings me more joy and connection than I could have ever imagined. I feel honored to support clients, wherever they are on their own journeys, to work towards a better quality of life that includes increased self-esteem, healthier boundaries, more productive coping skills, and improved interpersonal relationships. Therapy can be hard work! I hope in addition to offering both evidence-based and holistic therapeutic methods, I can also offer a safe, supportive, and compassionate space for folks to tackle their goals.
My Style
My goal as a counselor is to help each of my clients feel safe to explore who they are, what they want, and how to get there. I have some experience working with children in school-based therapy, working with adolescents in a residential setting, as well as seeing adult clients both in a private practice setting as well as a high-acuity, low-resources community mental health internship. Previously, I have worked with individuals, groups, and families that are seeking counseling for challenges with interpersonal relationships, self-esteem and identity exploration, trauma, adjustment, stress, challenges with neurodiverse diagnoses or life experiences, challenges with emotional regulation, attachment issues, and/or skill-building. The primary diagnoses that I have seen include anxiety, depression, adjustment disorders, PTSD, bipolar disorders, substance use disorder, and certain neurodevelopmental disorders, including ADHD, Autism I and II, and learning differences. Typically, I use an eclectic, strengths-based approach which I adapt to the unique needs of the client. However, I most often utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI) techniques. I like to integrate visual tools, like worksheets or activities to support education and self-exploration, as well as bilateral work/movement, and when appropriate, expressive art therapy interventions for all ages. I aim to offer an inclusive space where clients can feel emotionally and physically safe to share the most authentic version of themselves. If a client feels that I have misunderstood any part of their cultural identity, I encourage clients to share any grievance with me so that I can do better as a counselor and learn where I need to invest in further education/training. I am a very new Wake County resident! When I am not working or overly relying on Google Maps to explore the area, I enjoy traveling and trying new restaurants, taking way too many photos of my cat, exercising, and being outdoors whenever possible. Fun fact, I went to culinary school, but I rarely cook at home.
